LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Laser hair removal is the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedure, second only to Botox®.
At The Skin Center of North Carolina we use the VPL Laser which removes the unwanted hair by converting light energy into heat. The melanin in the hair absorbs more of the heat than the surrounding tissue. The heat transfers down the hair shaft, and when the temperature at the base of the hair reaches 70 degrees , the follicle will be destroyed---no more hair. Commonly treated areas include the arms, underarms, bikini area, legs and face.
What can I expect the day of the treatment?
The hair in the treatment area will be trimmed and a cooling gel applied to ensure that the light energy is used to achieve the best results. The Ultra VPL applicator will be placed onto the skin and flashed in a series of shots to treat the area. Immediately after the treatment your skin may appear a little more pink than usual, but it will fade quickly. The hairs treated will fall out naturally over a period of one to three weeks.
It is important to note, hair grows in phases and the hair follicles must be in the active growth cycle to be treated. For this reason, a series of treatments is recommended for optimal hair clearance.
