Renew Skincare Laser Center was created to meet the skincare needs of the residents of the Central Piedmont by offering a convenient and pleasant environment in which to received safe and effective Laser therapy.

Evaluation of your medical wellbeing and the health of your skin before laser treatment is the most important step in assuring both a great cosmetic result and avoiding potentially harmful outcomes. The North Carolina Board of Medicine recognized the importance of this in a published position statement in July 2005.

We at the Renew Skincare Laser Center require that all of our Laser practitioners are licensed professionals and have years of medical esthetic training in addition to their Laser training before they are allowed to treat patients. Renew Skincare Laser Center not only requires that our Laser therapists undergo training in Laser safety and treatment beyond what is required by the State of North Carolina but also ensures that each practitioner receives continuing education every year to keep
up to date on the latest, safest and most effective treatment
modalities.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL
Provides permanent reduction in unwanted hair with minimal discomfort! Whether the hair growth is due to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, medication or disease induced hair growth, Psudofolliculitis Barbe, or simply a desire to quit shaving any particular body area; patients find the results very satisfying.

HOW IT WORKS AND WHAT TO EXPECT
Renew Skincare Laser Center uses both the GentleLase and the GentleYAG for hair removal depending upon your skin type. The FDA has cleared these lasers for "Permanent Hair Reduction", and we consider this therapy to be permanent.

Hair removal lasers all target melanin. The best candidates for laser hair removal are individuals with light skin and dark hair. Darker hair contains more melanin which is concentrated around the dermal papilla, or hair root. The melanin granules absorb the laser energy, which in turn produces a thermal effect. This heating action is what destroys the hair follicle.

You should wait 2-4 weeks after your last tanning session before you start your laser hair removal treatments. The dark color you obtain when you tan is caused by the activation of melanin in your skin. Activated melanin will heat more quickly when exposed to the laser energy, and therefore there is a higher potential for burning the skin or causing pigment changes.

You should also plan your laser treatments 4-6 weeks after your last tweezing, electrolysis treatment, or waxing session. The greatest benefit with laser hair removal occurs when you have a high density of hair growing in the desired treatment area

When you are ready for your treatment, the hair in the area will be clipped or shaved. This allows as much of the laser energy as possible to be absorbed by the melanin near the hair root, increasing the effectiveness of the laser.

The treatment itself has been described by many clients as a feeling similar to being 'popped' by a rubber band. However the sensation is so fast that most people do not mind what little discomfort they feel.

The GentleLASE and GentleYAG have spot sizes that range up to 18mm. The 18mm is the largest spot size of any laser on the market today; the bigger spot size makes the treatment fast, and effective. The lasers can fire a pulse every second! Because of this Upper lips can be done in one minute, both underarms around 10 minutes, and a bikini line in 15-20 minutes! Hair removal has never been so fast!

The Candela lasers also use the patented Dynamic Cooling System which makes it the only laser on the market that delivers a cryogenic spray to protect your skin immediately before the laser impulse fires. We find it superior to messy gels or contact cooling, which cannot be as precise with each pulse.

Just after the treatment, your skin will be warm, and possibly flushed with color. You may also notice some redness, or puffiness. We will apply a cold damp cloth to cool the area. A topical ointment or lotion may also be applied to soothe and cool the skin. You should avoid rubbing or scrubbing the area for 24 hours. Pat or gently cleanse the area instead.

Within 10-20 days, the treated hair will fall out. It will look as if it is growing, but be patient it is just the roots working their way to the surface. Deeper, darker hairs will take more time to fall out than shallower hairs. You may shave, clip or bleach the hairs if needed before they fall out, but do not take the tweezers and try to pull them. Give them time to completely dry up and be ejected on their own.

After your hair follicles have come out you will be ‘hair free’ for some time. Eventually however, you will notice a new "crop" of hair emerging. These are hairs that were dormant or not actively growing during your first visit. This is a sign that it is time for your next hair removal session. Treatments are delivered 4-8 weeks apart. Some clients wait until new hair growth is seen to schedule their next laser therapy, while others, who don’t want to see that hair growth, plan a regular schedule of treatment intervals. For complete hair removal 4-6 sessions will be required.

As with any service of this type, there are potential side effects to treatment. These include hyper-pigmentation, hypo-pigmentation, and burning. Hyper-pigmentation is a darkening of the skin, much like a tan. It can last anywhere from a few days to a few months. Hypo-pigmentation is just the opposite. It is a lightening or bleaching of the skin, and can last for up to a year. If the laser energy is too high, it can produce a burn and if it is intense enough, may leave a scar.
