Almost everyone has unwanted hair somewhere on his or her body. Sometimes hair growth in particular areas can be a source of embarrassment, such as facial hair on a woman, or back hair on a man. Excess hair can be a result of certain hormones, medication use, or genetic predisposition. Of course, even a small amount of hair can be undesirable, especially when it is dark or thick.

Shaving, waxing and other forms of hair removal may yield temporary results — but the hair will grow back. Even electrolysis has failed to produce permanent hair removal in most cases. Imagine the tremendous relief of never having to worry about unwanted hair growth again!

Permanent hair reduction can be achieved through laser treatments at M.D. Laser Studio. Results will be seen immediately, but multiple treatment sessions should be expected to obtain the desired degree of hair thinning or elimination. The sensation produced by the laser has been likened to that of hot pinpricks against the skin. A topical anesthetic cream may be used on particularly sensitive skin areas to make the procedure more comfortable. Although there is usually no skin reaction, some patients may experience mild redness and swelling, which typically resolves within a couple of hours. After each treatment session, hair regrowth is typically slower, producing hair that is finer in texture, and more sparse.

Existing research indicates that laser treatment is a safe and effective method to remove hair. Side effects and complications of this treatment are minimal and may include the following:

Incomplete removal of hair
Infection
Skin lightening (hypopigmentation)
Skin darkening (hyperpigmentation)
Folliculitis (from ingrown hairs)
Skin textural change
Allergic reaction to ointment or anesthetic cream
These complications are rare. The GentleLASEâ„¢ laser used by M.D. Laser Studio selectivity helps to protect the skin, while effectively treating the unwanted hair. The laser energy is transformed into heat, which destroys the hair follicle but leaves the surrounding skin unaffected. Skin is further protected during treatment by a Dynamic Cooling Device, which sprays cryogen onto the skin to cool the upper layers and provide patients with increased comfort. After permanent hair reduction treatments at M.D. Laser Studio, most patients happily report smooth skin, free of razor bumps and stubble.
